Why The Respite is needed in the Charlotte community
Through Mandy Eppley’s nineteen years of being in private practice, she has witnessed first-hand the tremendous need for there to be a center in Charlotte that focuses on Grief, Loss and Hope! When someone experiences an intense, painful, and devastating loss, where are they supposed to go? What are they supposed to do? If we are all honest, grief is as large a part of life as everything else…to be a human being is to know great loss.
The issue is that we are under-equipped and under-developed in the terms of how to navigate our losses. We have much potential and capability as human beings when it comes to healthily moving through the painful feelings of our losses and the grief that encompasses them…although the great tragedy is that most of us are unsure of what to do or how to grieve.
Thus, The Respite: A Centre for Grief and Hope… is THE place to receive the help needed. The Model of Heart-Centered Grief, founded by Mandy Eppley and Chris Saade, is used as the foundation of many of our support groups, workshops and retreats. We have a full list of holistic services and providers for workshops, classes, retreats, art therapy, yoga, massage, and multi-generational experts who work with adolescents as well as elders. We provide specific support for a variety of loss circumstances.
Elizabeth (Woods) Berrien, Mandy Epply and Cindy Ballaro, founders of The Respite are passionate about empowering individuals and families by providing a space where grief is welcomed and hope is possible. |
THE RESPITE PHILOSOPHY
The Respite is a Center for anyone who wants to grow through the changes in their life or through the tragedy that has befallen them. It is a place to learn how to grieve in a productive, life-giving, and life-affirming way.
We at The Respite want you to know: We are not afraid of the depth, intensity, or duration of your pain. We are professionally trained and veterans of huge losses ourselves. This is one place in Charlotte, NC, you can come and not check your grief at the door….In fact, we ask you to unashamedly bring your grief with you…so we can all grow and learn more about what it means to be fully human. Grief is as important as joy when it comes to embracing our full humanity. Yet, our joy is easily accepted in our world…our GRIEF is often not.
At The Respite, we will be supporting you to learn, grow, and explore what it means to be fully human through your GRIEF, while also holding onto the threads of joy no matter how fragile these threads might be during your time of pain and loss. Our services and programs are about learning to grieve in a healthy, real, heart-centered, grounded and full way. And they offer a vital lifeline of HOPE during turbulent and disorienting times.
Grief is a vital and unavoidable part of life. Despair and hopelessness are not. In fact, paradoxically, when approached with enough wisdom and reverence, our wounds can actually become the wombs from which great passion and creativity are born.
